The Energy Of The Great Gatsby Trailer

Something has struck me recently about the books ive been reading. Whether it be Jack London, Roy William, Fitzgerald or Kerouac, what makes their words come alive is the PASSION!  The energy and excitement of wealthy socialites in  pre-depression New York. The energies and high spirits of the tramp jumping onto trains on the road. The feel of adventure, wind and excitement is a new form of enlightenment thinking, for a post-modern audience. Well reading these books gets me damn excited about life, about adventures, about America, about New York! About sex, art, people, discussions, dirt, roads and pretty much everything uprooting yourself or being rich does.
Baz Lurman has directed and written the screenplay for The Great Gatsby, which will be coming out later this year. The trailer really seems to sum up the energies of the lives portrayed in Fitzgerald works. Its certainly fast, lots of swift editing and special effects. Yet it seems to reduce the overwhelming complexities of the socialites decadent lifestyles, into a love story. If the social commentary of Fitzgeralds work is reduced to a boy-meets girl story (albeit in crazy NY during the prohibition), I will not be the only viewer who is left unsatisfied.
